What's your favorite season?

According to Gallup:

The June 6-8 Gallup Poll finds 36% of Americans naming spring as their favorite season of the year, while 27% prefer fall, 25% summer, and just 11% winter. Each time Gallup has asked the question -- in 1947, 1960, and this year -- spring is the season the public has been most likely to name as its favorite.

For me, in order of preference:
Fall
Winter
Spring
Summer

But I expect most people line up with the survey.

"this year" was 2005, BTW

When I was a kid, summer meant no school and camping and sleeping in the back yard and swimming... as an adult, I've done a 180

Tho' I still run into people my age who insist they "love the heat!"

We rarely went swimming. We either hung out at the city playground (asphalt!), played in our or other kids' yards, or explored the woods. It was the 1950s. Today, we would be called "free-range"!!

We didn't have woods where I lived, but open countryside (no longer, of course)

Camping was the highlight of the summer!! Loved it. Sadly, I think I've outgrown it (last time I camped, I found it very uncomfortable and I haven't been since)

I can certainly understand your not liking the cold-- in California it does get cold but not that cold (compared to back east and midwest). Rain, not snow. in winter and mild springs.

Summer is hot but it's a dry heat-- far preferable, from what I've heard, to humidity

is the knowledge that summer is on its heels.

But I really do enjoy spring-- all the flowers, the rain (I hope), etc. Lots of positives.

It would be pretty boring if there weren't any seasons, but people from the east say that out west, we
really don't have any!

Rain is fine for winter but snow? No thanks.

I'm up north where the ocean's temp is much cooler (at least, it used to be). And I'm not directly on the coast so that makes a difference. Still, I wouldn't live anywhere else!

I hope you get lots of rain later this year.

in disliking summer! Here in Sacramento, it is unbearable to me, so I end up spending most of the time indoors. After a couple of cases of heat prostration, it's not an option at my age, 60. You are golden if you live on the coast. It rarely gets too hot. I grew up in SoCal, 10 miles from the beach, and the weather was perfect, still is.

Spring is my favorite season. I just like the freshness of the air, new beginnings, and promises of fresh veggies and fruits. Fall is raking leaves, and winter is rain and fog. No snow here, and that's fine and dandy with me!

Was born there and brought up in Davis, so my memory is that the heat is pretty ferocious.

It must be quite a difference being in Sacto when you were raised on the coast!

I once went to the beach to escape the heat. It was cloudy and foggy on the coast and even a little cool. I ended
up with quite a sunburn!

Stay cool, shanti

it marks an end to the dog days of a Virginia summer. A little crispness in the air at night puts a spring in my step all day.

Spring is a very close second to Fall because of the new and renewed life it brings. Birds, bees, buds and blossoms. (ouch!)

Fall was always my favorite with "early" winter being mixed in there. (until Jan 1st)

But after moving to NC Piedmont spring has taken over as my favorite. The incredible colors of spring here are breathtaking.
I miss my early winter of the midwest, when temps are still manageable and snow is thick and wondrous, but don't miss the frigid months of Jan & Feb or the wet, sloppy, bone aching cold of March & April.

I lived in Canada for awhile and it snowed during January, I remember. It was literally breath-taking because the downy flakes fell so gently and so softly, seemingly from nowhere-- you can tell I haven't seen a lot of snow in my life. But then, there were three weeks of slush, which became dirtier and dirtier with each passing day. Give me the rain anytime!!

People sometimes think talking about the weather is shallow-- not me! I am very much influenced by what it's doing outside, as I think most of us are.

I frequently get teased by my partner because of my "Chicago ways"
He has noted things about us Chicagoan's that he finds very humorous.

Down here in NC when asking about the weather you get answers of a numeric temp.
In Chicago people tell you what they are wearing. LOL I guess we figure that will tell you what it's like outside.

I'm in the Northeast and I'm happy with any season without snow. I savor the warm weather, though lately it becomes sweltering with no in between, but mainly I'm happy if I don't have to worry about being caught in a blizzard. If I lived in the South, I might feel otherwise. Welcome to DU!

Summer: windsurfing without wetsuits, cookouts, dinner on the porch, light until 9 pm...

Spring: We don't seem to have much Spring anymore... winter directly to summer.

Fall: I like the colors, but not what it implies (winter around the corner).

Winter: If I never had to shovel snow again, I'd be happy.
