yuiyoshida
(45,090 posts)rarely wear them outside, unless I go to a beach..than I track sand everywhere

(11,790 posts)They're fine for walking half a block to the beach, but uncomfortable for anything more.

(28,394 posts)No one wants to see my naked feet.

(12,132 posts)my worry for other people's viewing displeasure.
then again, I have narrow, angelic beautiful feet. I've been known to go with my wife to get a pedicure because if I went without her the ladies would try to steal me.
nadine_mn
(3,702 posts)they really shouldn't be seen by anyone...lol. Here's to your beautiful tootsies!
kentauros
(29,414 posts)And I can wear them all year
Chellee
(2,294 posts)I don't think they look good, not even the fancy ones. I detest the Fwap Fwap Fwap sound they make. I can't stand the feel of that little thing between my toes. And every step I take in them, it feels like someone is hitting my heel with a shoe. I wouldn't wear them if you paid me.
YMMV

Any reasonable society would have outlawed these hideous insults decades ago.

(12,132 posts)and arch support in the sole and have lasted for several years now
But I live in Florida and wear them everywhere, almost year-round, when not dressed for work. (Except theme parks. I have a pair of gold-cup top-siders for that much walking)
Mine look a lot like this:

yuiyoshida
(45,090 posts)that look like those. very comfortable, to lounge about with. Not good for hiking or outdoor use unless you are at the beach.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)I drive in them just fine. I will go to the grocery store, mall, movies, out to eat anywhere I'd wear shorts and t-shirt to (If I'm going some place fancy enough to get dressed up I'll wear dressy shoes).
I do not wear them to concerts as I generally go to shows where open toes will get smashed and flips will get flopped.
My friend wears his flip-flops with his kilt but I don't do that. I like the kilt hose/dress boot look when I wear my kilt.
I used to be like all the folks who don't like the look of their feet or hate things between your toes..I'm a native Floridian but I grew up in Dallas and never owned an open-toe shoe until I'd lived back in Florida for almost 30 years. I finally gave in and tried a pair and it took about a day to get used to them and all the advantages quickly overwhelmed all my previous doubts.
y'all can pry my flip flops from my cold, dead toes.
yuiyoshida
(45,090 posts)as a display than on my feet. I would prefer that sandal than to wear the geta.

(3,702 posts)beautiful, but not with my clodhoppers

(21,119 posts)Mine have a leather footbed and my toes can grip them so they stay on.

(10,893 posts)shoes aren't my style. It's sneakers or nothing for me.
yuiyoshida
(45,090 posts)an open toe sandal will be perfect to wear....

GoneOffShore
(18,007 posts)And uncomfy because you're always aware of that 'thing' between your toes.
Boxerfan
(2,570 posts)One false step & you loose the big nail on your toe-twice in one summer & never again.
Made the mistake of kicking a "rotted" board with open toe sandals-split my toe right open....
Footwear in my world is for protection-style has zero to do with it.

(56,696 posts)I mostly go barefoot the rest of the year.

(46,179 posts)but they don't provide enough support for my ankles, which roll too easily, so I don't often wear them.

yuiyoshida
(45,090 posts)what do you call those?
Auggie
(32,981 posts)they're rubber and seem to last forever. I wear them year round.
Flip flops: I never liked the feeling of that rubber thing between the toes. Sandals feel more secure on the foot too.
yuiyoshida
(45,090 posts)but heading backward they slip off so easy. A good sandal should be snug on your foot!

(838 posts)I hate the feeling of something between my toes. I picked up a pair of these from Zappos recently though. They're comfy enough for the gym even.

yuiyoshida
(45,090 posts)but not on my feet, those are for guys!
nadine_mn
(3,702 posts)I have size 10 feet and no sense of balance, have broken both ankles at one point or another. The men's sandals are great. Women's sandals are either too flimsy, have some type of heel, or too narrow.
To each their own, but no good can come from me tottering around on anything with even a hint of a heel.
pintobean
(18,101 posts)I splurged and bought four pairs.

(3,702 posts)that thong between the big toe hurts...and I usually end up tripping - so haven't worn them since I was a young 'un.

(21,787 posts)we called them thongs or zoris, but thong has taken on a whole new meaning, so flipflops it is! as a teen, i lived in rubber thongs, it was kind of a surfer girl look then. i remember the japanese straw flipflops with the velvet straps too - they were popular.

now, i keep one pair of rubber thongs to wear to the mailbox as i'm barefoot indoors in the summer. have to keep them hidden from one of my cats tho, as he has a chewing problem and destroys anything rubberlike.
i'm mostly a birki girl, but still love my bernardo sandals in the summer. they are classic.

staw zori sandals. My Parents brought me a pair from Nihonmachi aka Japantown about a year or so ago! I forgot I had them, with all my shoes in the closet!
IronLionZion
(50,994 posts)but they are impractical for walking around with the flip flop sound and exposed toes. I'd rather wear some birkenstocks or sneakers.

(45,090 posts)a negative obsession for Flip Flops, she should JUST stop writing about her hatred. Just because SHE has fallen on her face, and ruined her nose, doesn't mean the rest of us have... she needs to get over it!
