I've looked on the net but i might be using the wrong search terms.
What i'm looking for is some sort of Wifi or bluetooth thingie that would transmit a signal from a cable box, a short distance to a TV on the deck.
There use to be an outlet on the deck, but it's dead (not sure when we disconnected that) and my rec room is just down the steps from the deck.
With the good weather my wife and i would like to take a signal off the box and put in on a different TV without pulling wires from all the way in the basement.
Anybody heard of such a thing?

(38,310 posts)One part was connected to the composite video and audio output of the cable box, and placed within view of the box's IR remote control input. This was wirelessly connected to a another box with a composite video and audio output. The cable box's remote would work in either place.
Our cable box was in the living room, but we could watch wirelessly in our bedroom.
We don't have cable or satellite anymore, so I haven't kept up. HDMI systems with the same functionality are a little sketchy. To prevent copying or sharing HDMI was designed to prevent rerouting of protected content between the box and television .
I also know it's been broken. I have a cheap hdmi to vga converter that doesn't choke on protected content. Ordinary HDMI output devices think they are connected to an ordinary television.
It's rather like the DVD players that ignored region encoding, playing DVDs from anywhere without fuss.

(19,833 posts)Transmitter and Receiver. Idea was to hook up transmitter to the AV output of the livingroom 'cable' box while still feeding HDMI to the TV. Then the receiver would hook up to the TV in the garage.
I returned it because its rf signal seemed to interrupt the wireless signal to the livingroom box (This is ATT Uverse and I've got two wired boxes and two wireless boxes). When I would turn on the transmitter I'd get a freeze-frame on the livingroom TV.

(18,470 posts)My brother might actually be interested in one of these. When he's making the more divine means of consuming grain (aka BEER) he has a TV in the garage but doesn't have a DirecTV line to it. I might send this on to him.

Thanks again.

(12,132 posts)My "whole house" DVR includes wireless receivers on sets we didn't want to run new cable for. It's all part of the cable system so we can watch anything on those TVs that we watch on the other TVs. Live or recorded and it can be different channels from what's playing in the other room. (Wireless set has menu and guide just like the main one in the living room. I can choose live TV, recorded stuff from any DVR in the house, any of the on-demand or PPV channels I get). I have Brighthouse but I know other cable companies do it too.

(4,640 posts)That's important, because if it is, you just need to make sure line of sight for the cable box and won't need any extra stuff, that's for internet only though.

(64,995 posts)It's a cheapie (Best Buy store brand) that used to be in the living room. We don't have a TV in there anymore, so we've got this spare. It's pretty big for the deck, but only weighs about 12 or 14 pounds so moving it is easy.
I might just use my wife's table and figure out how to send a USB signal to the TV. The tablet does work with the wireless from the deck.
