Squishy backpack? Travel Question inside...

We'll be flying for the first time in over 10+ years. I knew about the airlines restricting the size of carry on / under seat items, but it was a bit of a shock to find out how much smaller everything needs to be now.

I purchased generic drawstring backsacks, like the ones pictured below, for the kids to bring their own phones/ipods, chargers, earbuds, etc--and probably not much else. The dimensions of the flattened backpack are larger than the max dimensions of the airline's personal item size.

My dum dum travel question: I'm thinking with hardly anything in it, these bags will fold/squish down well within the max dimension. Will the airline measure the dimensions of the bag or just check to see if the bag will slip into their baggage sizer?

Thanks for any advice!

You'd just have to put them into the sizer, if anyone asks petronius Aug 2016 #1

I don't even see them asking that often, unless something is grossly oversized...

Now I can move on to over-worrying over other trivial details...

you should have no problem. If all you're packing into them is electronics they'll probably easily fit under the seat in front so you won't even need to take up overhead space.

Have a good trip.
