So, I did a little grocery shopping for some necessities after work which included the standard Giant Bag of Dog Food for Orchid, the tiny little 65-lb Pit Bull.
I stashed the Giant Bag of Dog Food by the front door while I put the rest of the stuff away, and scooped some of the existing dog food from the bin into her dish.
Orchid took one look at the food in her dish, then looked at me & disappeared. Where do you think I found her?
Of course! Sitting by the front door, sniffing at the Giant Bag of Dog Food & looking at me expectantly wagging her tail.
And when I yell: "Go eat the food in your dish! IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME!!" she pays no attention.
Or am I the dumb one for raising my voice to a non-English speaking quadruped?

(115,615 posts)They want the food out of the new bag, not the very same food that's already in their dishes. I wonder whether the "old" food in the dishes is stale; but they eat it up so fast that it doesn't really have time to go stale. Maybe cats have different standards of staleness, though. Maybe your dog does, too.

(153,122 posts)why should she settle for old food when she can have new food? Yes INDEED. She thinks you just hunted for that food....it's a FRESH KILL!!!

When it gets near the bottom of the bag, Snowy will often leave some of her dry food in the dish. She's less likely to
do that when I've opened a fresh bag.
