Just read a chapter on cat aggression by a cat whisperer. She suggests that you

not punish a cat for biting but take some fun away from it. So when my cat bites me (which is new behaviour for him...they are little nips nothing that hurts) I put myself in the bathroom for a few minutes and close the door. It has come to this. I think I'm quite a passive person really. But it seems to work. He usually likes to go to the bathroom with me. He is quite bewildered right now. Quietly sniffing around the apartment.

is when the cat is chomping on your hand (assuming he's not biting down hard enough to draw blood), just stop moving and let your hand go limp; don't try to pull it away. In the cat's little predator-brain this means that he has "killed" his "prey," and now the game is over and is no fun any more. Usually he will let go of your hand in order to find something alive to hunt.

Mine is usually not trying to draw blood though

If my tortie is especially cranky, I tend to give her a catnip drenched stuffed mouse. And by give I mean force it on her. She usually starts chewing that instead of me.

if the cat starts to bite you, give the cat a toy it can bite instead. These cat kicker toys are great, they love them.
