It's not about being 90yrs old, it's about Jerry LEWIS being hateful and bitter

Last edited Fri Dec 23, 2016, 12:25 PM - Edit history (1)

His misogyny made news several years ago. Here he is venting his way around a clueless "interviewer" who seemed to be focused on an ageist angle about retiring since his interviewee is so old. The tidbit of actual news was where LEWIS called Dean "my partner" as being the only best thing in his career (life), which is probably what his whole behavior has been all about.

Someone should remind Jerry that: Getting old sucks but it's easier with a smile in your heart. In_The_Wind Dec 2016 #2

I thought he was civil, if sparse. Certainly not forthcoming... I didn't see anything bitter or hateful

I have to tip my hat to him for all his years of work with the MD telethon. He raised a pile of money for that cause. Kudos to him.

He did it in a way that was demoralizing to people with disabilities, that they were objects to be pitied. There are much better ways to raise money and showing the people who benefit in a positive light.

O.K., raising tons of cash for charity is great, a gazillion times better in life than I will ever do. But that in itself doesn't make somebody a good human or make up for bad deeds in life. LIMBOsevic and the KOCH brothers donate or raise tons of cash for whatever good causes, so...

That said, the pitying on disabilities is totally the most important point about it all. Secondarily to that, there always seemed something fake about it, how he never would disclose what his special connection to that particular cause was. And cynical me, I suspected that after the breakup, it was all a way out of a sinking career.

Next on my carping at my betters, except when he was bursting with joy in performing next to Dean, I didn't find his juvenile antics funny, while The Stooges and Groucho were INSPIRED in their absurdity.

Finally, about bursting with joy with Dean: It's none of my business, but he seemed to be in love with Dean and couldn't deal with that or get past it. Still, there are snippets of interviews where he took an obnoxious, arrogant, pitying tone, saying that the breakup was because "poor Dean" was frustrated over Jerry being the focus of all attention, that poor Dean had so much talent but was in the shadow of Jerry, etc. Seems like Dean went on to live a really high flying life with scads of attention-getting movies and whatever else. Hence the bitterness for Jerry.

As for what everybody says is great, The King of Comedy, I've never seen it, so as usual my opinions are superficial and very limited, but I just don't need to be an expert to have an opinion since life is too short to be exhaustive. Just the high points. Or the low points.
