Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsShoot...christmas is just a nice time off work. But it's kinda lonely.
Thanksgiving was the same. New Years will be too.
I set myself up with nice munchies and movies, but the aloneness is getting to be a bummer.
Anyone else been googling "how to be alone and happy at Christmas"?

(60,302 posts)Heck, you could have flown cross country, we don't like to see anyone alone on holidays.
We are staying with our children while we relocate but Christmas dinner today included a young family who is not able to travel this season.
There is always too much food and the more the merrier.
Sorry you are alone.

(20,219 posts)They're all busy with their families and such.
This one guy I'd been friends with for awhile has stopped talking to me...we tried a romance a few years ago but in the end I had to friend zone him. Just no attraction for me, ya know? But we'd been close friends for 5 or so years anyway.
Well, when I lost my beloved doggie, who was all the family I had, in the summer he was a support for a short time. (I have new babies now). But he's limited emotionally, and supporting a friend who's not a sex partner was too much I guess. He stopped responding after that.
It's funny how people you don't know will reach out but friends, not so much.
Thanks for listening!

(814 posts)of La La Land (good!), my wife made all the family phone calls. I'm making the roasted beet-avocado salad and the marinara sauce for her lasagna for tonight. We have a bottle of red wine and a gingerbread woman for dessert.

(814 posts)both passed away and my out-of-state siblings have their own holiday traditions. My wife's parents are still around, but they are divorced and also are in the habit of visiting specific friends/relatives on Christmas. We see them all over the course of the year, just not during the holidays.
I pity the folks who only get a limited amount of time off, and have to use it travelling around the big summer holidays or Thanksgiving or Christmas.

(20,219 posts)I do this alone at the holidays thing each year with varying amounts of poise. Today the needle on my keep-up-a-cheery-exterior meter is hitting E.

(20,219 posts)Geee, thinking about going and doing it gives me phobia attacks, though. Hmmm. Better work on that.

(17,092 posts)There are others out there not only alone but struggling, either with physical health or mental health. You can't cure what ails them, but you can be a bright spot in their day.

(35,148 posts)single friends there. I come home and my nieces and boy friends come, it was nice but I couldn't wait
till they left. Went out for dinner at Steak and Shake and now I am watching "We are the Millers" on TV
funny movie. Worst part for me most every place is closed.

(877 posts)No friends or relatives bother to call. Even direct siblings. It really hurts. We have a few Christmas cards but they never bother to call. The only person that called us was my Mother and she died in May.
I secretly hope to win the lottery to watch them grovel then say - where were you during the holidays and didn't bother to call us?
I cry alone at night so hubby doesn't see but he knows. And I know it upsets him too.
Perhaps next year a DU Christmas meetup??

(20,219 posts)Hugs!!!! I'm sorry that you're lonely too.
I'm kind of introverted so the effort of developing friendships is difficult.
