but that's an awful lot of hood for birds to poop on!

Seriously, if I could afford that, I would rather get this:

So much more practical in every way, and the performance really isn't lacking at all!

Seriously, if I'm going to spend a lot of money on a vehicle, I'd buy a slightly larger hybrid than I have

True story - back in 1977 my sisters and I all were in a position to buy new cars. My oldest sister bought a Porche 911, my older sister bought a used Mercedes sedan, my little sister bought a Firebird. I bought a GMC Suburban 2500. OUt of all those vehicles, my truck lasted the longest - seventeen years (and over 350,000 miles) later the block cracked on the engine and I had to get a different truck. My sisters' cars lasted less than four years each.

Our current vehicles are a 1999 GMC Suburban 2500 and a 2006 Prius. While we'd not mind a newer version of the Prius, the Suburban is one of the last models with a 454 engine. I'd like to spend some money spiffing the interior and touching up the exterior, but it should last me at least another ten years. The Prius is just a little smaller than we'd like for trips so when it's time to replace it we will go with a Prius V or equivalent.
