The Rockford Files is leaving Netflix at midnight tonight.

I'm on season 3 - episode 11. I'm not gonna make it all the way through

I've enjoyed the hell out of re-watching this show after all these years. Granted there's a bunch of well-worn tropes in it but it's still remarkably well-written and Garner's depiction of the character is a joy. Also, he was a damn good-looking man.

It's like watching old movies with my kids...

Well, that was predictable.

They've seen those stories before. Then I have to explain that this movie was the first.

They're never going to see 2001: A Space Odyssey the way I did, when the sets and special effects were still astonishing.

Ironically, The Rockford Files, at the time, broke the mold of accepted detective genre. His character was self-depricating, unglamorous and sometimes his cases went unresolved. Sure, he had plenty of shootouts, fistfights and car chases but the viewer was always assured that ultimately, Jim Rockford was happiest when he was fishing with his dad.
