National Cream Puff Day Although many of us may be unaware, cream puffs actually have their own special celebratory day. Yes, you have heard this correctly. Each and every year, these delectable pastries that we all adore are honoured by those who hold such delights in high esteem. So, what exactly are cream puffs and how have they come to be so popular in modern culture? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/cream-puff-day/55-MPH Speed Limit Day The national 55 mph speed limit made the law by President Nixon on Jan. 2, 1974. The idea behind the law was to improve driving efficiency. The move was also made in direct response to a dispute with OPEC (The Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries) that had led to an oil embargo on the US. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/55-mph-speed-limit-day/
Happy Mew Year for Cats Day Like the hugely inferior human version of New Years Day, it is on this special day that our feline companions can paws (get it?) and consider the mewness of the brand new season and all of the purrfect possibilities it holds. Perhaps this will be the year their people start feeding them tinned food instead of dry? Maybe that tomcat next door will make his move? Will the useless dog realise that the cat is king in this house? All these questions and more can be pondered by our furry kitties today while they go about their normal business of looking aloof and disinterested. After all, dont you know that cats rule and dogs drool? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/happy-mew-year-day-for-cats/

(17,184 posts)... he felt it necessary to take a position defending the 55 MPH speed limit. (It was a LONG time ago) So he was treated to the argumentum ad absurdum:
You favor the 55 MPH speed limit because it will save lives. Wouldn't lowering it to 50 save even more? Why not 35? 25? Manifestly, if the speed limit were 10 MPH, even more lives would be saved. But then, why not 0? Why allow driving at all, if saving lives is the object?
A gag, perhaps, yet one that raises a philosophical question central to society: how many deaths (and whose deaths) are acceptable for our convenience?
