What is the proper quantity of toilet paper to purchase at one time?

If you buy 30+ rolls from Costco it's "Jeez, that guy wipes his ass a lot", but if you only buy a 4 pack it's like "What, this guy can't afford to spring for more than four rolls", or "what's this guy trying to say, he don't wipe his ass?".

And I don't know what messages of desperation you're sending out if you buy just one single roll of toilet paper. Is it "what, this guy's dying tomorrow?" or "this poor bastard only has a buck to his name?".

How many rolls (deep, personal question I know) do you buy at a time?

I like the 24 pack. It says "I'm prepared, but not a freak.".

BEFORE YOU ALERT ON THIS, GIVE ME THE HEADS UP AND ILL DELETE IT.

thing Dad was O.C.D. about. We always had many tens of rolls. I don't know if they didn't make the bigger sizes of packages you see now, or not, but I rather think not. It was back in the 70's. We never had less than 10 or 12 and often many more of the 4-roll packs of Charmin. I carried this thinking into my adult life.

Nowadays I'm not exactly brand-particular myself, and I always scout for deals when I'm grocery shopping. Whichever has the best deal. I usually keep 3 or 4 large multipacks at a time (12-24 count, double or triple roll size if I can get them).

That all said, I'm not paying the outrageous prices for them. Not trying to mortgage the house for T.P.

You can't have too much TP.

It doesn't go bad.

If your supply outlives you, your heirs will be grateful.

Every time I got "stranded" on the toilet without paper, my father would bring me a roll and would always sing this song to the tune of the 50's/60's western "Branded"...."Standed, stranded on the toilet bowl...what do you do when your stranded, and you can't reach a roll? You MUST be a man, and wipe with your hand!"

You could be buying a single roll because you are going to Costco tomorrow. You could prefer toilet paper over tissues for some reason. No one is judging and if they are, it doesn't matter anyway.

39. Has no one heard of unit pricing?
Fri Mar 24, 2017, 08:31 AM
Mar 2017

I buy the cheapest Scott clone, the local store brand, a 20 pack. Excellent paper, lowest price per roll. I'd have to drive many miles to get to a Costco. Unit pricing was fought for by Naderites for years, and it's a good regulation -- enables you to see at a glance if the manufacturer is trying to sell you a larger quantity for more money per unit rather than less. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty and economical living.

Fri Mar 24, 2017, 09:08 AM
Mar 2017

LOL. Seriously. My husband and I were in NY in January when a huge winter storm was predicted to hit NC--and the entire east coast--just
as we were returning. I literally called a friend at home and asked her to pick up milk and TP for us so we wouldn't have to make a store
stop only to find no milk on the shelves. We had quite a laugh over the request for TP and she bought a 12 pack. (I knew I had put the last roll on in the master bath before we left and had planned to do grocery shopping on return from our trip.)

Fortunately, our plane landed on time and we barely got to the pet resort to pick up the dog before it closed. Then we stopped at the friend's house to get the supplies she picked up for us that morning. By the time we got home, it was sleeting.
We were literally frozen in by snow/ice and unable to get out our driveway for FIVE DAYS! We had power and TP, so we were happy!

Winter Storm Helena dumped a mess of snow and ice in the South on January 6-7.

Helena then dumped a swath of snow along the East Coast from Virginia to southeast Massachusetts.

That's a loaded question! It depends on how much one goes to the porcelain alter. Of course my 11 year old, as many that age do, uses too much paper. I'm guessing that's why we've had a few overflows. Not a favorite of mine.

I cannot stand the TP that shreds up when I wipe and leaves little crumbs of paper stuck to my nether regions. Give me Charmin extra strong! And a 12 pack lasts a long time, as it is just me and the cats and the cats don't wipe with it.

I was on a container ship on a round the World voyage. The company was worried that the World might end and told me to order in advance that which I felt was most important.

I ordered Toilet Paper and Cylinder Oil. I then conducted tests on all the ship's systems, except I could not test the elevator.

We all know how it turned out.

We buy the Costco packs. I have an aversion to spending a lot on toilet paper.

I remember Author Jan Cremer used to tear pictures of politicians and celebrities out of newspapers to use as toilet paper.

I hope that's concise enough.

It's called a bidet. You can get one built into a toilet seat.

They work, very well in fact, but you'll still need some TP to handle the, ahem, wetness.

It's still a vast improvement over dragging a clump of dry cellulose over where the sun don't shine, mainly in terms of cleanliness and comfort.

As The Donald would say, "Believe Me"!

And it depends on how many people live at your place. If you've got a partner and five kids, your needs are rather greater than if you're living on your own.

My wife and I stock up on TP, tissues and various cleaning products. We buy them at our local Lidl when they are "on special" (i.e. cheaper than usual). They don't take up all that much room, don't go off, don't do anything except sit there waiting to be used. We're not the only ones. Just makes sense.
