http://97x.com/gregg-allman-enters-hospice/
Gregg Allman, the voice of Southern Rock for decades, first with the Allman Brothers and through his solo career, has reportedly entered hospice. The result of a long history of illnesses, including the need for a liver transplant in 2010.
So far, only a few Twitter posts asking for prayers, and an unconfirmed Facebook post reports the hospice placement. But his history of hard-partying and drug abuse clearly has taken its toll.
Sending up prayers for my friend @GreggAllman. Praying for healing and a restoration of your health, my friend. God bless you!

According to his website in March, Allman cancelled his entire 2017 tour schedule, after a string of missed concerts dating back to last Summer. The announcement then said he would be seeking treatment for Serious health Issues, at the Mayo Clinic.

(14,337 posts)Hardly a routine procedure for anyone. I dated their roadie decades ago and met the band once after a concert. If they continued to party like that over the years, is it really surprising his problems today? Such a shame. He/they paved the way for Southern Rock still being copied today. You cannot argue that talent is talent.
But then you have Keith Richards who looks like a walking corpse. So who knows?

Greg talks about his partying days and liver problems in this interview with Dan Rather.

(7,511 posts)I saw the Allmans multiple times, once with Duane. It seems around age 70, a lot of old rockers hit the wall.

(18,837 posts)That post was from Relix Magazine, which I thought would have verified the information before posting. They have long covered "jam bands" (primarily the Grateful Dead), but they have covered the Allmans as well.
Thanks for the clarification.
