(115,582 posts)1. Watch how he walks. Cats directly register, meaning
they place a back paw in the same spot as the preceding front paw, leaving fewer footprints. Also, when he speeds up his gait changes from moving legs on the same side together like a camel, to moving legs on the opposite side together, like a dog. Neat video!

All felines walk that way. It minimizes noise and visible tracks and provides sure footing for their hind paws when they walk across rough terrain.

My cat, Tashi, resting on sand - I was amazed at how well this tabby point Siamese mix matched the sand color!
