I need help interpreting a dream.

Last edited Mon May 15, 2017, 05:47 PM - Edit history (1)

First the dream itself, then some background.

So I go to visit my wife's cousin who lives in New York, who's this rabid, right-wing racist reactionary type. He's beside himself because he has a golden retriever who has arthritis and is having major problems walking. However, I think I have a solution, because it turns out Bill Clinton--in addition to being the 42nd President of the United States, head of the Clinton Foundation, and a should-have-been First Gentleman--also turns out to be a world renown dog whisperer capable of curing all your dog's ailments. And he's appearing somewhere in upstate New York. So I convince my cousin-in-law to travel upstate, even though he naturally despises Bill Clinton. I suppose he's just very desperate to help his dog and will try anything.

So we have to go upstate, but problems ensue because we are being stalked by these debt-collectors who keep on tagging on all these phony debts to our accounts and then threatening to sue us over them. We have to desperately attempt to avoid them, and eventually we have to hole up in some old motel for the night.

In the meantime, there's a hurricane approaching, and it's really windy and stormy outside and there are ongoing power outages. We're both concerned about our cell phones and how much battery is left in them, but my cousin-in-law is insistent we can't unplug our cellphones or else we'll lose everything that's on them. And because he wants us to keep going, he asks me to go find lots of extension cords so we can keep moving with our cellphones which are being charged in the motel.

So I venture out, trying to avoid the debt collectors who are still constantly around trying to harass me, all while the wind is swirling around me. And I go from gas station convenience store to gas station convenience store trying to buy an extension cord, but they're all closed in advance of the storm. Finally, I find a gas station that is open, I go to buy the cord, and it just so turns out that appear at that very gas station convenience store that very day is....Dog Whisperer Bill Clinton!

So I hurry back to the motel to tell my cousin-in-law, we plug in our phones to the extension cord and we head on over to the gas station with his dog. By that time, the line to see Clinton is really long, and we know he's only supposed to there for a short while. So we're pessimistic we'll get seen. My cousin-in-law attempts to cut in line, pissing lots of people off. Meanwhile, my shirt is all dirty and gross from being out in the storm, so I take it off. It looks like we're out of luck and we see Bill Clinton getting ready to leave but I decide to step up and approach him. And even though I look like a raggy old bum without a shirt, I stand up and look him in the eye and ask if he can help my cousin-in-law's dog. And I'm so proud how confident I feel under the circumstances. And then my cousin-in-law comes up and I'm all nervous because he's a crazy conservative and he'll just go off on him....but he sheepishly and embarrassingly just asks Clinton to help his dog. So I get a little kick out of seeing that, this big, bad conservative type who talks all macho is groveling for Bill Clinton to help him.

So President Clinton takes the dog out back, where it's beginning to storm hard. He whispers something in the dog's ear, and it starts running around, pretty quickly losing its limp, to the point where it's completely normal again. And Bill Clinton turns to me and tells me that the dog really was just faking it all along, and because he knows he doesn't want to get wet in the storm, he's just decided to drop the act and walk normal again. Everyone is happy, including my crazy conservative cousin-in-law, and I then wake up.

A couple of notes:

*Growing up, I did have a golden retriever, and towards her later years she began to develop arthritis in her legs and I remember how disheartening it was for me to watch her struggle with it.

*I actually did have to travel on a road trip to upstate New York with my uber-conservative cousin-in-law, although it wasn't to see to a dog whisperer but rather to go to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

*I did have a chance to shake Bill Clinton's hand before. However, I was wearing a shirt at the time.

*I have no idea how either the stalking debt collectors or extension cords play into anything.

holding on to the idea that you can teach an old dog new tricks and that when push comes to shove and someone or something a deplorable loves is in dire straights, that they will listen to reason no matter who it is that delivers the reasonable revalation. The storm is easy... we're in it and time is short for folks to wake up from their fever dream. JMHO

The desire for redemption for ourselves and our friends and loved ones is deeply seeded in the cosmic consciousness.
Your kindness is revealed in your dream.

- he thinks things that aren't really there are hurting him. So the "cure" is really just learning the truth about what's really happening. I thought it was interesting that the dog wanted "to come in from the storm"- another interesting metaphor.

Sadly, he's one of the most racist people I know. And yet on a personal basis we've gotten along okay. But his racism does bother me....I stay out of it because I don't want to get too deeply involved in my wife's family business.

It might make sense to you if you simply remember that everything and everybody in your dream is actually only you. Your sub-conscious is showing you how you feel by showing you a movie about it with different characters.

In your dream each character actually embodies the feelings you have about them. Your brother is the one who seems to be directing this chaos and the dog, an innocent victim of circumstances is being dragged around. You're the person trying to fix everything by finding solutions around all the storms and the chaos. Bill clinton is someone you put there as an authority figure (probably personifying our government) who can fix problems.

If you remember how you felt during the dream you will get a better clue of what your sub conscious is battling with. Did you feel frustration or maybe anger, or fear of not being able to control anything? Did you feel guilt, panic, terror? How you feel in dreams is the most important clue. Dreams are always about how something makes you feel.

Do I win the internets today?

More by the debt collectors who were chasing me and harassing me than the actual storm....the storm was just the background. And I was annoyed because I thought my cousin-in-law obsessing over extension cords for the phone chargers was bogus and stupid and a distraction.

But when we actually got to meet Bill Clinton, I suddenly felt this surge of confidence. My cousin-in-law was beside himself, and yet I was stepping up and taking charge. And the fact I looked like a sweaty bum didn't bother me in the least. I stood up there and asked him to address the situation, and that he did. And I felt a little smug that my uber right-wing cousin-in-law was suddenly being forced to submit to Bill Clinton of all people to help with his problem.

But after Bill "fixed" the problem, that smugness basically melted away. I was happy, my cousin-in-law was happy, Bill Clinton was happy, and the dog was happy. We were just happy the dog was feeling better. It didn't even bother us that we were still in the middle of the storm.

When they "are his" (extremely patriarchal) but surprised anyone else cares. And he needed you to say it was okay to get help - like social services and RWers- and he was okay w him getting help even though he hates the system (Clinton)

of the arthritic dog as unable to move, stuck somewhere. The debt collectors as impeding progress, getting in the way. The storms as
unpredictable chaos around you. The extension cord as power. It wasn't until you got the extension cord that everything started to fall in place.

Perhaps your country appears damaged and in the middle of a storm, but a dose of liberalism is coming. The conservatives will come to their senses. It will be all right.
