Two guys jump on a plane to San Francisco for a concert....

This is the theme of a Bank of America credit card commercial. It's apparent the concert is only in a few days, so scratch getting good discounts on airfare. Am I really cheap, or did anyone here ever do that back in the day, or even lately ?

I bought 2 tickets from Rochester, NY to Lisbon, then rented a car and drove to Marvao, to hear a recital in the afternoon of Aug. 2.

I can totally understand getting the usual two-weeks-in-advance-or-more discount and going to a concert or recital, but last minute ? Let me see something:

Absolute best price is $117 round trip from LAX to Oakland. Prices go up to $784. So, I guess if you shop carefully, it's not that bad. The example above is only 3 days in advance.

His buddy called him and said that he had enough money for two one way tickets Richmond VA to Charlotte. They had enough money to buy bread and some sandwich meat. They turned that around into beer and more sandwich stuff. Between selling and trading they saw all the shows and bought tickets back to Richmond.

Non-stop to go to concerts. With eight people in the van, they would somehow trade off sleeping and driving, share gas and food costs, and only miss a week of classes. They often flew - but not with a plane...
