Going to the gym with my wife for the first time in our lives. UPDATED!!!

Last edited Sun May 21, 2017, 07:19 PM - Edit history (1)

CHA BRO IM SO FUCKING RIPPED NOW

jk I feel great! My wife and I actually enjoyed ourselves and got past the anxiety with plenty of laughter and support.

We felt good as we left, didn't feel like poop. So we must have done something right.

One problem though was that a few too many men leered at my wife a bit much and it made her uncomfortable. Any advice for dealing with live testosterone?

Other than that, we had fun on a multitude of machines and ended the session with treadmill cardio. I think we might even come back!

Just do what you can and set small, achievable goals. If you can afford it, invest in a trainer until you know your way around and have a plan for your progress.

Good luck!

Hints

take every 3rd day off

work certain muscle groups 1 day and different muscle groups the next day

lift in sets (repeat the lift 10 to 15 times) start out doing 3 sets
don't forget the cardio .... but do that after you have lifted or worked w/the
machines

bench presses and incline bench presses are really good for you ..... start w/light weights.

when you do the exercise/lift right it will hurt a little .... but if it really hurts or you have
trouble doing the lift or the machine back off

Mistake to make is to do too much too soon. If you pull or rip a muscle, it can set you back weeks or months. Always ask the gym instructor and better still get them to work out a program for you.

I'm Army, do PT with the privates every day; my wife joined a gym last fall. So proud of her.

High intensity interval training is very good as you get a bit older, and lifting free weights. Stay away from the Nautilus machines.

Let us know how it goes! 💪😎👣🛰️

Now when you say avoid the Nautilus machines... Is that a general name for all machines???

I would tell her to just ignore them unless they get too aggressive, in which case she should report them to the management. And you'll have to ignore them too.

The other advice is the same as someone else said: don't try to do too much too soon. Set a realistic goal of two times per week until that becomes a habit. If you do more than that, fine. But people who say they are going to go every day usually burn out and stop altogether.

For me, it has been easier to go with my husband. We just make it part of our routine.

Have fun!
