A few weeks ago when FrankfurtCat started a thread on Great Songs with "Alone" in the title, LeftinTX replied with "Alone Again, Naturally" by Gilbert O'Sullivan. In reply, FrankfurtCat thought that song was by The Beatles.
It reminded me of the first time I heard "Go All the Way" by The Raspberries on the radio. The DJ didn't announce who did it and I could have sworn it was Paul McCartney.
Anyone else hear a song you thought was by a Beatle or The Beatles, but it turned out to be someone else?

(52,199 posts)then i found out it was performed by badfinger.
then it turns out it actually was a beatles song after all, written by paul, and paul produced the badfinger version, instructing them to play it exactly as the beatles....

(8,632 posts)It wasn't until they brought out the Anthology series that I heard Paul McCartney doing it. But when I first heard it I thought, "That's gotta be The Beatles."

(54,358 posts)Although the lead guitar work made me suspicious, as it didn't sound like George Harrison on lead at all.
I'm so bad, I could have sworn it was on one of my old Beatles albums.
Albums are long gone.
I guess I had mixed up with Day Tripper and Run for Your Life

(5,914 posts)Badfinger got a lot assistance from the Beatles, because they were one of the original Apple Records bands. Paul McCartney wrote and produced Badfinger's first hit, "Come and Get It". Badfinger was actually named after a demo that the Beatles did called "Badfinger Boogie".
I seem to recall that George also co-produced the album that "Day After Day" appears on, Straight Up.

(43,867 posts)Someone already mentioned Badfinger. 'Day after Day' just sounds like a George Harrison composition with slightly disguised McCartney vocals.
Klaatu - anyone remember them?
My oldest brother even theorized once the Chipmunks were actually the Beatles - just sped up!

(5,170 posts)I can't explain why, but I thought the Beatles had recorded it and it had remained in a vault for years until released in the 1980s.

(2,302 posts)I thought a bunch of their stuff sounded very Beatlesque...or maybe, Beatles for a new decade.

(8,573 posts)They were compared to the Beatles a good bit, due mainly to the songwriting skills of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, who collaborated to write the tight little pop songs Squeeze is known for. They're really good.

(8,632 posts)I seem to recall either George or Paul saying in an interview that if The Beatles hadn't broken up, they probably would have sounded something like ELO.
