(19,186 posts)but I always disliked that song.
"In the desert, you can remember your name....'CAUSE THERE AIN'T NO ONE FOR TO GIVE YOU NO PAIN".
It's like they just gave up on the lyrics. The rest of the song wasn't bad, but that one damned line blew the whole thing for me (and just about every other sentient being at the time).
I can't believe some other member of the band, the record's producer, the mixer, the soundboard guy, the record company's executives, the guy who swept the floors, ANYONE.......didn't say, "Uh, can't we come up with something better than that?"
But, it is what it is. It's in recorded history as one of the worst songs of the decade. I don't think it deserves that much derision, but..... if just 10 more minutes of thought went into it? Who knows?

(58,598 posts)The isolation allows a bit of introspection, without the thousands of people in your environs shouting at you to "get things done!" or some other such crap. All the great religious gurus spent time alone in the wilderness.
Perhaps you need some time in the desert.
Caveat: I'm actually more of a forest guy than desert, TBH.

(19,186 posts)that bothers me, it's the stupid lyrics! And yes, I've spent a LOT of time by myself in quiet retrospection, BUT IT'S THOSE INSIPID LYRICS!
Sorry, it's just a question of grammatical error. There have to be 1,000 different ways of saying the same thing without sounding like Donald Trump.

(58,598 posts)a literary extension of "artistic license." Grammar Nazis probably shouldn't read poetry or listen to music.

(19,186 posts)for referring to me as a "nazi". People who settle for ludicrous poetry or music simply can't appreciate the finer examples of same. Sorry about your stunted tastes.

(63,172 posts)"There were plants and birds and rocks and things" Seriously? Someone wrote that? On purpose?
"The ocean is a desert with its life underground
And the perfect disguise above."
That's pretty strong.
