What is so rare as a day in June?

Then, if ever, come perfect days.

Every year on the first day of June I think of my grandmother. She was born in 1895. She died back in 1982 or 1983; I can't even remember any more. She was my favorite relative.

She never learned how to drive. One day, over fifty years ago, we went on a walk from her apartment to the shopping center about a mile away. I doubt she had over $5 on her. Anything more than that would have been extravagant. It was June 1. It was a day just like today. In DC right now, it is sunny and in the low 80s, with some puffy cumulus clouds floating around. She said the words I have quoted here.

I can remember it as if it were a few minutes ago.

I have the misfortune of going to a picnic on Saturday with members of my father's side of the family. Unless they've changed, I expect to hear how great covfefe is.
