(20,886 posts)A HERETIC I AM
(24,380 posts)the most expensive Motel 6 I ever saw was $25.00. Typically they were $19.95 a night or LESS, often as little as $14.95.
If I am not mistaken, the "6" refers to their original price point - six bucks a night, just as "Super 8" was $8.88 a night.
I've seen Motel 6 room rates in excess of $90.00 these days. And just crap coffee in the morning. Not so much as a cellophane wrapped danish.
For ninety bucks, I'll spend the extra twenty and go to the Hampton Inn, thanks.
One upside; If you travel with a dog, almost every single Motel 6 in the country accepts dogs with no problems. It is the only national chain with such a blanket policy.

(3,521 posts)I used to stay there by choice. Cheap and basic was fine. Lately it seems that people have begun to stay at Motel 6 to do things they can't do at home. Very noisily. Like scream, run up and down the hall, puke loudly in the hall outside my room and bang on the doors looking for his wife. No more, I'll pay a little extra.

(2,682 posts)I love taking road trips and I always look for a Motel 6 -- usually the cheapest rates in town. I agree that the coffee in the morning is a joke. They are trying to complete with other chains that offer continental breakfasts, which aren't more than coffee and donuts, but the donuts can make the difference. One, however, must pay attention to the neighborhood the motel is in. If it's a seedy area, chances are one would be less than satisfied with the night's stay. I passed one up because I didn't like the area and the people hanging around outside the place looked questionable. I instead stayed at a lovely locally-owned old-fashioned motor court which was inexpensive, clean and didn't even have coffee. Hey, I was just spending the night, not moving in.
