heeded the words of Michelle Obama, "when they go low, we go high" before her insipid and stupid action. In the words of the vernacular, she is an asshole!

I for one will be glad if I never see or hear from her again.

Her biggest mistake was apologizing.

(1,462 posts)Thread went off the rails, careened down a cliff, and burst into flames at the mention of "untalented."
Like her or not, agree or not, she is an established comedian and a well known name. That takes a small measure of talent at a minimum.
I personally think the trump head should go on tour like triumph the insult comic dog. Maybe even let it visit kindergarten playgrounds this fall and let kids play dodgeball with it.

(50,949 posts)Trump's face, I would have thought it was hilarious.
By apologizing it makes it harder to defend.
Also we've been burning politicians in effigy since who knows when.

(8,445 posts)She shouldn't have apologized. At the most, she should have explained the symbolism, or whatever it was that was the reason she did it. If it was hatred for what 45 and republicans are doing to our country, then a whole lot of people feel the same way. IMO, apologizing in this case is just pathetic.

(84 posts)I'm a nobody but if somebody asked me to pose and post a pic like that on social media I would have said that is moronic. And putting yourself on a level with the awful Nugent who gets away with such things does not make it right.

(84 posts)I just joined DU so I have a low post count. I didn't just "find the time" I retired recently so I have more time to do things like express my opinion on sites like this. BTW, I voted for Hillary in the primary and general so your apparent "thesis" that I'm a Bernie voter is wrong as well. But that's a technique people often use when they can't rebut a point - attack the messenger, even when it's false.

(11,122 posts)Gotta ask you how you would have reacted if dennis leary had paraded down some stairs with a bloody head of Obama or Michelle? Would you have found that to be funny? Would you have been outraged?
Dude. Bad taste and crudity is bad taste and crudity regardless. My feeling about this third list celeb is that she is forever on the hunt for some stunt that will get her to second list. Tell me something funny she has done. Her desperate grab for celebrity has given the right wing more excuses to behave the way they do. Michelle was right. Go high. You shouldn't go lower than them - tho this whining comedy wanna be tried.
(Oh. I voted Hillary twice this year.)

(823 posts)There is a video of Griffen talking to the photographer in which she correctly describes the anticipated backlash she has endured. If you do something like this, talk about how bad it will get and do it anyway, you lose your moral outrage card and just look stupid.

(23,983 posts)D list would also be kind. I agree with your characterization of her "desperate grab for celebrity."
I wish we could all have voted for Hillary twice.

Or one of the head half-buried in a steaming manure heap.
Or the head resting on Putin's lap.
Or being used as Putin's foot rest.
Or floating in an undrained swamp.
Or being shot out of a cannon (i.e., "fired" .
Or circling the drain.

(63,210 posts)She was immediately put under incredible pressure to apologize, both from the Right and the Left, and it doesn't seem unlikely that she faced actual threats from elements of Trump's base.
In fact it seems more than likely.

(4,429 posts)I don't really follow her career, but I think it's a mistake to call her untalented. Many people have found her talented over the years.
To be a comedian means that you push at the margins of humor. She pushed too far and it didn't work.
Honestly, I wish her well. She should get back up on the horse, having learned from this, and keep on 'keepin' on.'
It was just a 'bad' joke.

(15,220 posts)I agree in that the news conference and apology were a bad idea. It made her look vulnerable and Trump fans loved it.
I don't like what she did myself, personally, but she had every right to do it. I think she's suffered enough and it's time to move on. I do not like the idea of an entertainer's entire career being ruined over one bad decision. I've never really been a fan of hers, but obviously she has a following. I hope she will take some time out of the spotlight, and then come back reinvented.

(37,748 posts)Thank goodness satire, by its very definition, dismisses your unsupported premise. Mustard can be a real shock to mayonnaise fans...

(1,475 posts)stratosphere. So, instead of rewriting it, I decided to go to the refrigerator and check out the mustard vs. mayonnaise thingy that you posed in your "analogy"?? Shucky darn! I like them both! What I do not like is the bastardization of the definition of "satire" to legitimize the exploitation of "satire" by Ms. Griffin. As someone who writes satirical political poetry, I do not, as many others, align myself with Griffin's "satirical" efforts. In my opinion, satire and intellect are codependent and Griffin flunked out in both areas.
