Dogs have Owners; Cats have Staff

If you, like my wife and I, are privileged enough to be living with a feline, don't even CONSIDER the illusion that "He's Your Cat." Truth is, You're His Human!

I love this quote

ShahBoom has several cats, and says, "I don't so much own cats as I just sort of exist to serve them. I do cat rescue, and a lot of times when they come to me it's because they're older and harder to place with adoptive families, so I know going into it that I might only have them in my life for two or three years, or maybe a few more.

But I'm grateful for every one of them, and every day that I got to love them, and I make sure that I honor each and every one of them when they finally do cross over."

She was on our bed today crying. Hopefully Bast will send us another goddess soon!

The love that was attached to the departed cat seems to need a new place to settle. And I always refers to successors, never to "replacements." More than 20 cats have left their footprints on my heart over my 66 years, starting at age 5.

Anyone who has ever really gotten to know a cat will know they're quite affectionate toward us. You just never own them.

Completely dependent on others but fully convinced of their own independence.

If cats were people, they would wear dinner jackets, attend the opera, and sip cognac.

If dogs were people, they would wear mechanics shirts with a name on the pocket, go to baseball games and guzzle beer.

She'd attend alt rock festivals and maybe Burning Man, and she'd drink soy milk or kale slurpees. She'd hassle you if she caught you drinking bottled water.

Milo would wear mom (or dad) jeans and Hush Puppies (or, as we used to call them, math professor shoes), and he'd drink boxed wine without apology. He would enjoy sentimental movies, even those about dogs.

Jeoffry would worry that he's getting a paunch, so he'd wear Sans-A-Belt pants and long cardigan sweaters. He'd drink expensive Scotch when people are looking, but cheap bourbon when they aren't. He'd watch superhero movies, and secretly would look at fairly conventional porn on the Internet.
