After ten agonizing posts (j/k) I can finally introduce myself. As my handle implies, I'm a Libertarian. For those that do not know, Libertarians fall center left on the political spectrum. I'm looking forward to discussing some of the pressing issues that face us today. Outside of politics, I'm an animal lover. I have two indoor cats, two outdoor cats and one outdoor dog. Three of the five are rescues. I generally love the outdoors (just not the ticks that come around this time of year). I tend to spend most of my free time outside, even if it's just sitting there enjoying nature.

(56,701 posts)good luck, a username like that may get you some extra scrutiny.
I have a lot of libertarian tendencies myself. too bad every single one that I have seen run for office has been a nut job/and or a moron.

(20 posts)Would be the first that comes to mind that I would put into that category.

(56,701 posts)cringeworthy for sure.
sometimes I want to vote for one in a local election but they invariably do or say something STOOPID and I stick with the Dems.

Being an animal lover will endear you to many! Have fun!

(20 posts)I don't mind extra scrutiny. You won't find my pushing any agenda around here. What you will find from me is a willingness to finding solutions to the problems that plague us. You will find that I will always want to get a better understanding. If i'm taught my entire life that 2 + 2 = 4, then someone comes along and says, no....you're wrong, it's 5. I will tell you why I think the answer is 4 and I will want to know how you came up with 5.
Let me tell you of two different conversations I had about 15 years ago. The first, which was with my sister (lesbian) that was attempting to get me to back gay marriage. She presented her points, I presented my points, blah blah blah. This went on for a few months, hours at a time, finding ourselves at an impasse.
Not long after we stopped talking about it, the subject came up with a Cajun friend of mine. Within minutes, I had changed position on the marriage thing and found myself siding with my sister. Convo went something like this.
Cajun: Hey D, I thought you were a Libertarian?
Me: Yep, I am
Cajun: I thought Libertarians for less government intrusion in peoples lives
Me: Yes, we are
Cajun: Then what is the government doing in the marriage business (straight or gay) in the first place?
Me: You're right, they shouldn't be
With that short discussion, he was able to get me to change my position. By him getting me to change my position, I in turn was able to get others to change their position. So yes, I'm a firm believer in open discussion. That's the best way to move forward.
