I offically start work Monday 9:30 am

This place is more professional than the other place I worked at. I could listen to anything I wanted as long as I wore headset/earbuds. This place I won't able to listen to Randi Rhodes or any hearings...

My biggest worry is THE TRUMP SUPPORTER I might encounter at work.

I live in a RED county in PA.

HUGE supporters. Hubby and I keep our head down around Supporters and seek those who didn't support.

Any suggestion on how to change the subject away from Trump or politics without giving myself away. Most years a shrug or a How about Pirate/Penguins/Steelers and it is changed without any issues. BUT since the elections I found I smile at the foreign delivery person or Thanked him with a Thank you, Sir in Spanish would give me a tongue lashing.

Someone called in Looking for answers to a question but was speaking Spanish. I said Hablas Ingles? and did my best to help him in the most elementary Spanish and English I could. I got glared at.

So any suggestion? Any ideas?

The deplorables will never learn Russian, so you will have an advantage.

If you are exposed to a single unwanted political comment, go to HR and if that is an issue, find out now, not a year from now when you are miserable and feel trapped.

...and the ones who support him are usually under-educated or educated and under-informed ( does that make sense?) But they are also ppl I have encountered every year I have been a vendor and I consider them friends. I think all the bumber stickers on my car give me away and the few remarks they made last summer gave them away. For peace sake we keep our convo to business or family. I would assume they are all trumpers at your place of work and eventually those who aren't will make their way into your field of vision. Wear a safety pin om your clothing...see if anyone comments.

I have very strong personal beliefs about (whatever) . I prefer not to discuss them at work. If they retaliate for this you certainly have a HR complaint.

I work and live in red trumpsterville. One of them ever has a PhD, but whatever. I think if you just avoid the topic you should be okay, they will assume you aren't living in their alternative universe, but what can they do?

Peace

Don't worry about the small stuff.

I live in a Red area as well. In my endeavors I find there is very little political talk or religious discussions. Yes you may run into a rabid Trumpster or 2, but most people understand politics is not suitable for work. If someone says something just walk away from the conversation. Say you have use the restroom, or get a cup of coffee or ask a question to change the subject, like "where's the best place around here to go for lunch". Don't be baited. You're not going to change anyone's mind and you'll just get frustrated. You don't have to react to every comment.

But my best advice is just be yourself. Make friends with people you're comfortable with and enjoy being around. Good luck.

P.S. Didn't understand this comment you made.

Was this in another job? Who glared at you?

The person who called was injured and needed his case worker information. The person who would help take calls when she wasn't doing reports glared at me. I had heard her get a similar call and she told the caller "Your in America speak American" yes- she did say speak American and she hung up on the caller.

Thanks for the advice

Didn't understand how you'd already had a customer interaction when you hadn't start the job yet. Wow on the customer service rep who treated a customer like that. Disgusting. She should have been fired.

I doubt she knows even one word of ANY American language. I'm betting all she knows is one European language--English. Where does she think England is, anyway? Somewhere between Iowa and Illinois? England is in Europe, just like Spain. English and Spanish are NOT American languages. They are EUROPEAN languages.

If she wants to speak "American," then she must know Navajo, Seminole, Cherokee, Iroquois, Lakota, Wampanoag, Apache, Hopi, Tlingit, Ojibwa, or some other language indigenous to America. If she doesn't know any American languages herself, she has no business lashing out at other people, telling THEM to speak "American."

You can do it. Just ignore the trumpers.

I work in a red county, and they've never bothered me. Weird as this might sound, they seem to be respectful of others.

I've had a couple of jokes about my Dem bumper stickers, but no hostility.

Hang in there!
