The hot water heater leaked all over the floor. Needs repair.
Carpet will need to come up due to mold. Wall paneling may need replacing. Flooring didn't 'feel' soft when I tested it with a screwdriver.

(72,300 posts)I was home alone when I saw the wet area that told me I have a problem. I moved a few things and took a look at the wet mess.
Quickly I scooted out the back door to a neighbor's house. He's done a lot of home repairs himself. So I knew he was the best chance of stopping the problem before it got worse.
Tony was able to find and shut off the water source. He pointed out that the problem was/is the pressure valve letting off steam. He connected the drain hose and let 40 gallons of hot water run out of the house instead of onto carpeted floors.
So ... How difficult is it to change the pressure valve?

YMMV

(1,588 posts)I have a gas stove.
I went without a hot water heater for two months.
It worked out.

(1,588 posts)It was a old house.
I had several big pots that were used for canning.
Gas stoves are the best.
Hope you get you hot water heated back soon.
