If you haven't seen it, and you like crime films, Heat is well worth viewing. It is rather violent, but in my opinion the violence is part of the story. The script is nearly Shakespearean, right down to Robert DeNiro's character's fatal weakness... and the whole movie is beautifully filmed and tightly edited ... but I don't want to give any spoilers so I'm going to stop gushing about it now.

Sadly it is one case of artistic depictions of violence leading to real-world copycats, namely the North Hollywood shootout. I can't find a citation for this right now, but evidently the criminals in that robbery had recently watched Heat, and apparently said to themselves, "Hey, we could do that...."
