(31,879 posts)I was 10 at the time, and my 15 year old cousin was NUTS for the Beatles.
I grew to like them later. Seems like only "Yesterday"

(29,336 posts)My cousin & I saw them at Met Stadium in Bloomington, MN on August 21. My aunt dropped us off and in we went. Can you imagine letting a pair of 12 year olds go off to concert by themselves now?
I'll let you do the math on how old we are today.

(79,009 posts)feel young when we hear these songs. The Beatles were such a huge part of our youth.

(31,879 posts)my cousins came to visit and one was around 15 in mid-sixties. She had a copy of "Hard Days Night" which she played over and over... my dad "accidentally" left it on top of our tube amplifier and it warped the record so bad it wouldn't play anymore. My cousin was soooo mad.

(60,949 posts)So hard to believe that was 50 years ago - life goes fast. The Beatles wrote the soundtract for our adolesence and made a chaotic time happier. I saw them at a baseball stadium that year in Chicago. Everyone said I would not even know what they sang. Nerd that I was, I wrote the list on a notepad -- after straining to hear enough to make out the song. Auido systems have improved immensely since then!

(3,480 posts)I've been re-watching Mad Men on Audience for the past month and today's episode was the one where Don got tickets for Sally to see the Beatles at Shea. Thanks for that video.

(9,426 posts)put us on the map. I am from Liverpool. Been to the museum and store many times. Got the autographs of 3 (no Paul) at the Liverpool airport for my niece who was a regular at the Cavern. They all look so young. Brian Epstein guided them in their early careers.

(33,643 posts)You see this phenomenon in all sorts of video's of famous good-looking Rock and Roll performers from the late 1950's thru the 1960's ... women crying out of love and excitement for being finally getting to be physically close to their idols. They did this for Elvis Presley as well ... these girls were in LOVE
and totally star-struck. Paul in particular was a major heart-throb for the ladies, due to his boyish good looks, but many, many girls at the time had HUGE crushes on every one of the four, even dorky-looking Ringo.
Welcome to DU, btw ...

(33,643 posts)IIRC the very last Beatles concert was right before I was born. Star Trek started like a month before I was born ... if you go back and look at how much 'stuff' happened in the year 1966, it's really pretty trippy. Looking back, that was one hell of a year in terms of 'happenings' ... definitely a major 'turning point' in history. And that's not just because, you know ... me.
I grew up in the Bay and lived there most of my first 41 years, aside from short stints in Hong Kong and San Luis Obispo for college. My Mom & Stepdad & Dad & half-brothers ... all still live in the East Bay. What a brilliant, brilliant place it is ... can't afford to live there anymore though. At least, not until my folks pass away and leave me a house (or two) of theirs ...

(33,643 posts)I LOVE LOVE LOVE that movie ... the Across The Universe, Get Back and the Spector-less Long and Winding Road performances (SO MUCH BETTER ... and I've said that since I was like 12 yo) ... being particular faves ... I think the first two were performed during the rooftop show, been a while since I seen it though.
Not really a 'concert' though ...

(14,679 posts)I doubt they heard what they were singing, and had to rely on muscle memory.
They may have gotten a little sound of the instruments from the amps they had on stage, but it's amazing that they were able to play together at all.
Three days later, in Atlanta, a local sound company set up a primitive stage monitor system and they could hear themselves during a live performance for the first time in a couple of years.

(14,337 posts)except screaming in the "nosebleed" seats. It didn't matter to us. The Beatles looked liked ants on stage, but we knew just being there was a part of history in the making.
I was not quite 17. My Grandma worked as a Nanny for an ABC Executive and got 2 free tickets from him.

(33,643 posts)I'm a HUUUUUUUGE Beatles fan, and my trivia knowledge of them would blow your mind ... and I've seen Paul a few times live over the years ..
BUT SOMEHOW, even after seeing him play (via film/video/live) with the group and solo literally 1000+ times ... it NEVER occurred to me ... that Paul is a lefty ... until JUST NOW.
That really blows my mind, man ... seriously ... such a trip that I've never noticed that. How the F*** could I have NOT noticed that in my 50 years of life?!? WOW.
Anyways thx for posting!

(1,528 posts)my mom said she remembers becoming pregnant with me after the Ed Sullivan appearance earlier in February.
My wife and I saw Ringo here in Seattle a couple of years ago. We took our two teenage daughters to their first concert ever to go see Sir Paul. The Beatles will always remain an important part of my life as I grew up listening to them on 8 track back in the '70s.
If you ever get the chance, check out Scott Freiman's Deconstructing the Beatles movies. http://www.beatleslectures.com/

(33,643 posts)When I was about 6, cause I loved Sgt Peppers album song so much ... also cause he didn't want me playing nicking his copies of the original releases and playing 'em on my 'suitcase' turntable, kid's one with the three colored lights behind the opaque plastic in the lid, that 'flashed' with the beat of the music ... lol ... he had a Garrard TT with Shure needle and said if I played his records w/my junky needle, then he played them, they'd sound bad and ruin his needle ...

(10,146 posts)In today's money that would be $19.53 per ticket. McCartney played here a few weeks back and tickets in decent seats were $250 to whatever the market would bear.
