How do I get my dog to potty during the hurricane. She is unhappily still going outside

in the rain and wind. What to do after in a few hours when it is too windy. She has never used newspapers or anything. THe only thing I can dink of is just to let her do it in the floor and then clean it up.

Any suggestions?

no... Urine contains low levels of ammonia--that's why it would possibly work hlthe2b Sep 2017 #11

she is likely to return there the next time. Put the papers as far away from where you all are spending your time as adult dogs don't like to soil their living space.

that might be enough to fool her, as urine does have a dilute ammonia smell.

Just put out papers in a far corner of the house and when she gets antsy, take her back there and show them to her like you would a puppy.

whenever there is thunder and storm.

she will hide anywhere in the house like behind a chair or in a closet, or the bathtub for hours until it passes. She literally shakes.
If the storm last a day, then yes i have to just cleanup. Luckily she will go to the bathroom where its tiles and easy to clean up.

.....who reacted just like that....could hear thunder before we did... and would start panting and pacing, whining, trying to get in our laps. We tried to keep a tranquilizer prescription on hand, but often ran out. He got in a bathtub once also! He was a sweetheart, but did scare people who came to the door, (not always helpful)!

that's where she goes when she can't hold it any longer. It will have the added benefit of sopping up any water that comes under the door.

Otherwise, just keep her off the carpet so you can clean up more easily. It's all I can suggest, poor doggy.

The instructions I see on the internet on using a kiddie pool as a pet rest area always fail to mention that.

the hurricane.

When the main hurricane had gone over our house, she insisted on going outside. I figured when she saw the rain she would run back inside. Instead out she went in the rain with the wind still blowing so hard I had to hold the door to keep it from coming off it's hinges.

Hubby said she was such a hero dog that she deserved a treat. I gave her a big piece of roast. Happy ending for all.
