(6,640 posts)documentaries I listened to recently on Youtube was very interesting and really blew me away with the similarities. Father left him a lot of money, and he blew it away. Lost a lot of battles but made paintings make him look like a great warrior. Turned on the very people he appointed when they didn't do what he wanted them to do. In later years was loud mouthed and lied a lot and threatened people. Actually the wives may not have done the deeds that got them beheaded.

Catherine of Aragon defied him about the divorce him which was always a mistake. She died of cancer.
Anne Boleyn's only 'crime' was not producing a son. Hers was a judicial murder.
Jane Seymour did have a son and died from "you're on your own, honey" child birth.
Anne of Cleves was smart. She went along with the divorce and Henry treated her quite well afterward.
Catherine Paar was signed on as home health care provider and step mom. She was lucky and outlived him.
Henry was raised and trained for a career in the Church. When his older brother died, he wasn't really prepared. Object lesson about not putting amateurs in a power position.

(66,294 posts)Despite the frequent portrayal of Henry VIII as a bellowing buffoon, the truth is, he remains to this day the best-educated king England ever had. He was a skilled horseman, a brave jouster, and a talented musician and songwriter. He inspired the court to retire "Your Grace" as the royal title, and institute "Your Majesty" instead.
