I put down "Prole".

(6,364 posts)My wife speculates that maybe they use a mismatch between claimed occupation and reported income to potentially flag returns for audits...

(6,336 posts)For example if you are a server and fail to report tip income, then it will probably set off a red flag to them.

I figured that they use the data to determine median wages for various occupations and as a verification versus W2 data. I'm bound and determined to prove that Adventurer is a valid career choice even if I have not figured-out how to monetize that opportunity yet.

(17,450 posts)I figure they use them to compile erroneous occupational wage profiles for the Occupational Outlook fiction they publish annually. My hope is that if enough of us start putting down "prole", they'll have to include it in their index.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
