Was going to see it, but now I won't.

(130,533 posts)But it does sound really intense. Atlantic's review makes me curious but also frightened: https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2017/09/mother-is-a-stunning-ferocious-head-trip/539877/

...he's not for everybody, that's for sure...he WILL...uh..."get your attention"! - but it may be too much of a "full frontal assault" for many peeps -

(12,730 posts)It was intense to say the least. We have a copy of it that I have not watched again. That is not because it is bad. In fact it made a great impression on me.

(21,202 posts)I even have the DVD.
I'm not a fan of grisly violence, and I'm turned off by yet another movie where a young actress is romantically paired with a middle aged actor.

(14,090 posts)didn't hold me fearfully enthralled the way E did...
"Dream", in the other hand - I have seen many many times (YIKES)...I could just relate better to the story(ies) it was telling...

(67,111 posts)And I still really disliked it when I saw it again a decade later.
However, I found Requiem for a Dream to be amazing (even if I have more than once complained about the pretentiousness of the title). And The Wrestler is among my favorite films.
I just realized that I haven't seen Black Swan. Hmm.
Anyway, I love the cast of Mother, so I'll give it a look when I get the chance, critics be damned.

Will report back...
Laffy Kat
(16,952 posts)She's in EVERYTHING. Seems like there are a dozen actors/actresses that are in all the movies and I'm sick of 'em.
Not Ruth
(3,613 posts)Usually it flops, and they struggle for the rest of their careers. Remember Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Kitsch? Probably not.
Dave Starsky
(5,914 posts)And I would stand in line and pay $13 to go see it.

(19,745 posts)A bit slow going at first, but interesting. Then came the violence and craziness. Arty film that was too heavy handed - extreme for the second half. I'd say pass on it. Plus the cinematography included lots of bouncing around as the characters walked. At least that is how it felt to me. If you have a movie club it would be great for discussion. Otherwise, again I'd say pass. Granted it was a weekday matinee, but there were only 3 of us in the whole theater (my friend and one other person) and I think one person left early.
