So CBS's plan to lure people in to their subscription service by putting the first episode of Star Trek: Discovey on network TV has me stuck.
There isn't a single other CBS show that I watch. If there was, I'd feel a lot better about paying the $6/month. On the other hand, I don't want to wait until next summer when the first season is done, when I could just subscribe for a month.
Anyone else grappling with the same issues?

(15,805 posts)It not worth the cost to pay for another channel that I would just watch for the one show.

I'll wait for it to come out on digital/DVD and buy/borrow/rent it, if it ends up being any good.

(17,862 posts)Would like to get rid of it. I was displeased Sunday night when trying to watch the 2nd episode of Star Trek. It was not working (I watched the first with my antenna). Before I got my antenna I did watch some NFL games on it. I also watch some NFL games with my computer.

(62,373 posts)Will the Star-Trek show still have commercials even though someone pays for it?
I really don't watch a lot of TV and have so far never regretted missing a TV show in my life.

I didn't really like Discovery's second episode, but I know previous Trek series first few episodes are really shaky quality wise. I'm not a fan of the Abraverse on the big screen. If it weren't for the fact that I'd have to watch commercials. I'd probably grudgingly pay the $6 in the hope that Discovery improves.
I plan to wait for the first half of the season ends in late November and use a site code to get a day or week free and binge the episodes. I thought for a while I'd buy the DVD of the series later next year. Now thinking CBS might not do a DVD release that soon. There were a lot of Trek fans that didn't even take the effort to sign up to All Access with the free two-day offer to see the second episode.

(11,250 posts)I'll probably wait as well, but I'd be interested in seeing how it plays out. This serialized version of Star Trek - as opposed to complete stories every week - is intriguing, and could go either way.

(3,147 posts)You'll need to enter a credit card. I had a Visa gift card with $2 on it and used that to make sure they didn't charge me if I forgot to cancel.

(3,147 posts)I'm still pissed that they put it on All Access like they wanted to sabotage the show.

(2,145 posts)and I don't see enough on CBS all access to make it worth while to pay. We will watch the shows available over the air.

(905 posts)I get Hulu for $6 a month and can pop in and out as I please. CBS does not have shows on Hulu or if they do they will upload the entire series once the season is over. I can't see paying $5 for this for one channel only.

(38,301 posts)Discovery will come around to Netflix, or it won't. Netflix is all I have. No cable, no satellite, no broadcast. Even Netflix is pushing my limit when it comes to what I'm willing to pay for television.
I don't watch broadcast TV because I've got no tolerance for commercials, not even the PBS before-and-after corporate bumper kind.
Other than Netflix I rent DVDs from Redbox or I find them in thrift stores. Thrift stores seem to have lots of DVDs lately, maybe because people are upgrading their movie collections to Blu-Ray and watching 1080p HDTV streaming services.
Our medium speed DSL internet is good for one standard 0.7 GB per hour Netflix video and that's it.
