A) The man must have been at least a mile or two away from that train, but the connection was uninterrupted.

B) The skill level suggests that if the technology exists, don't leave a window open in your house.

This is really F'd up thinking. Having lived in a big city, I would take the public transportation trains. I saw people doing all sorts of crazy things. My favorite was the picture they needed of the train entering a station as they hung their body over the platform edge to get a great shot. That is just stupid. Your life is worth a picture?

Multi-ton moving equipment is not a toy. What don't they understand?

200 tons of locomotive (just the engine - the whole train itself 10s of 1000's of tons) vs. maybe half a pound of carbon fiber?

You can argue he was violating various regulations, but safety of the train never was compromised.

When he saw the drone, he slammed his window shut. Any distraction is a danger. This behavior is stupid. I will stand by my statement always.

The part where he flew near the engineer's cab also bothered me.

If that dude derailed the train accidentally, he would never live it down. Especially if someone was hurt or killed.

'All pilots shall avoid flying directly over unprotected people, vessels, vehicles or structures and shall avoid endangerment of life and property of others,'" says FAA representative Les Dorr. "A train would qualify as a 'vehicle.'"

Dorr also cited UP's drone policy which requires prior written permission from the railroad before a pilot may take off, land on, or fly over UP property.
