The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just reported little kids in a gym, and a bulldog on a leash in a store. WTF???
I'm at the gym, large, full and busy, and this lunatic woman and grandmother are running around putting their 5 &8 year olds on the treadmills. The girl says, "Mommy I want to ride on that one!" and she's on it and the woman can't figure out how to make it go.....Running around the whole gym. This is not what I pay for at the gym. They threw their asses out. It has a designated and staffed really nice, big playroom...Luckily I was leaving.
Went into a large chain retail store: It's in every town; You've all bought there, and the young pregnant woman has a bulldog on a leash, and it's higher than my knees. WTF? The clerks don't do anything, so it proceeds to pull the candy off the checkout lanes. Wonderful. Dog drool on paper boxes of candy.
Not to mention, if it had fleas, bit someone, or if someone was afraid of large dogs. I think it's ok to carry little dogs in bags, but on a leash?
WTF is wrong with people???? I saw her leave from the other door. Don't know if she just went on her own or if they threw her out....
SERIOUSLY?

(20,726 posts)But I'm also thinking, what if the dog has fleas? Ticks? What if it bites someone? What if someone who has been bitten by a dog is now afraid of even small dogs?
I'm ok when people put little dogs in a bag and hold them, but not sniffing all over the damn store.

(9,527 posts)I've had the back of my knee ripped open and had my hand bitten into by dogs. I've been bitten, thrown off of, stepped on and kicked in the throat by a horse. And yet while I am respectful of what an animal can do, I think being afraid of them is silly.
Often little dogs like Chihuahuas are aggressive. It's not only big dogs who can bite.
If your concern is about things like fleas or ticks, small dogs can just as easily have those. They also shed and drool and pee.
I'm fine with not allowing non-service animals, but then do that, don't make arbitrary rules based on size.

(11,686 posts)service animal piss me off because the ones they are going to hurt are the ones who have TRUE service animals. I really think that people with service animals should have a card they need to show that their animal is REALLY a service animal prescribed by a doctor and have their and the service animal picture on it. No, it will not say what your disability is but just proof you need a service animal for something. Companion animals do not qualify and shouldn't because most of them are not trained to behave in public. There needs to be a test before you can take your service dog into public places. You know those classes people take to prove their dogs can behave? Something like that but a little tougher. That way it does not matter if the animal has been owner trained or professionally trained. I trained my own service dog and followed the common sense but unwritten rule that your dog is supposed to be so called invisible. When people came up to him why he was working he would look away from them and look up to me. By rule of thumb if you have a dog who drools as your service dogs you do not give them water for about an hour before you go out and try to feed them foods that do not encourage drooling and always have a towel to wipe up and make sure they are not standing so close to merchandise that it gets slobbered on.

(20,726 posts)Themanager was speaking to her but the dog owner was oblivious. The manager pointed to me , like, 'She tattled on you."
I reminded her about health code, but both women seemed to be completely clueless. If I see one again, I'll really contact health officials.
