on a computer of a painting and then print out the changes later.
Ok, but the printout won't be an original on watercolor paper. Where does that get you?

Artists like to use clear acetate to test how changes to a painting might work out. Added elements, a deeper wash, what have you.
They are able to test this way without ruining the original painting with a mistake.
Maybe its something like that? Im not sure.
