It looks like the subject posted most today is about ballet

Here is a large painting I did of a ballerina. My ex was a stagehand in the San Francisco Opera House so I knew a few of the women in the San Francisco Ballet who danced there during the ballet season. I sometimes would watch them rehearse, which inspired this painting. It’s 60” x 36”

You know how in ballet movement often starts from a short static pose and ends in another still pose for a few seconds? I wanted to catch the body moving from one pose to another, where it seem to defy gravity and the dancer is moving her limbs in wide arcs and sweeping movement.

I love the composition. I love the frozen moment of movement ( I know that doesn’t really make sense, but hopefully you know what I mean). I love the colors, particularly the blues on the dancer.

Wow. I bet it is impressive to see the large canvas in person.

Edited: forgot to mention the graceful fingers!

That was what I was aiming for. If you look at my response to the first post you can see that I was trying to capture that. It makes me feel validated to know that the exact thing I was trying to capture is what the viewers get. Thanks!

There's a beautiful athleticism in the dancer's pose and the color is effectively emotional. Further, the expression on the dancer's face is passionate.

I occasionally play piano for a ballet school in NYC and appreciate what you've captured. It's a beautiful painting.

with the red background. I wanted to make her look completely absorbed in her dance, perhaps unaware of any audience.
