Need some advice from the group

I'm going to the Bahamas in late April for a week. I want to paint (acrylics) while I'm down there but don[t want to lug canvases with me. What are some other options? I want something that's not too bulky and that I can frame down the road if I want to.

1. Bring a couple of sheets of roll canvas with you.

You can mount them on stretchers later.

2. Ye olde wood board. Many artists have painted on board. Just gesso them.

3. An artist friend swears by them

He said once you paint on a board, you'll never go back to canvas. I've been a bit leery because I paint so much, it could get expensive. I buy the budget, multi-packs of canvases, which work out fine.

7. I can see that. Canvas always stretches, and I'm hard on everything.

I never liked the give when using a palate knife.And the frame edges.

4. There are pads of real artist canvas

They’re genuine canvas, acrylic primed for use with any medium and they’re archival quality. I have a pad of 10 8” x 10” sheets, made by Fredrix which would be perfect for a trip. The sheets don’t warp or buckle or curl up. The canvases are medium texture.

8. You could use hardboard.

Richeson and Ampersand make pre-primed boards. Not too expensive and I like the surface. I tend to work small so I appreciate not having a canvas tooth.
