2. These are very good

In your background radiation piece I like the way you create an almost optical illusion with the use of repeated squares superimposed on top of each each other and next to each other. Each square is composed of larger, or smaller concentric right angles yet with the addition of color you create rectangular shapes that look like a depiction of a three dimensional weaving pattern. Your application of colors changes the basic basic repetitive square shape in two ways that I can see. First is the perception that we see the weave pattern and second our perception of depth. Your blue squares look like they are more distant, or “behind” the other ones with the warmer colors. It’s actually a very pleasant rendition for our eyes and brain which strive to see order and patterns in what we see. The fun part is in concentrating our gaze to perceive the squares individually whether they are in one gradation of colors or cut in half with complementary colors that then create triangular shapes. Very nice.

Your Trellis is remarkable in that you use similar shapes in such a way that it becomes an overall shape that looks three dimensional due to your use of a highlighting element that makes the piece look like it has a light source coming from in front, or behind the structure, depending on what the brain wants to see. This piece has a pleasing feel of something only loosely geometric, as if it was done by hand without too much emphasis on perfection of shapes. This is incredibly compelling and attractive because it has a feeling that you are looking at a 3D object in space that has depth.

5. I appreciate art that involves

brain/eye perceptions that change visual perception depending on consciously seeing the subtlety of patterns emerge within patterns. It’s like the wonder of fractals. I like the use of electronic art to create it’s own kind of unique perceptions which becomes an experience in shifting focus. I hope I’m explaining what it is I see and why I appreciate it. I’m old enough to remember when computers became accessible to everyone and when artists jumped on the software that enabled artistic creativity. It’s a form of creativity that was hard, and in many ways impossible to do before the advent of the computer. It’s exciting.
