Ive long considered Van Gogh as one of the first Abstract Expressionists, struggling with his strong emotional nature in his art. I think he would outline his shapes in his paintings but kind of go crazy with painting within the lines. He used paint and brush strokes as his emotional outlet. His paintings are his truth and we react to them by recognizing his truth as our own. We recognize that and we love him for it. His passions always grab us where it counts, deep within our beings, recognizing our own inner world.
