Not often I can smell a place just from looking at a painting of it but yes…

Really pleasing, thank you.

Painting instructor once told me not to be afraid to push color and contrast. You did just that.

Keep working--you'll be famous. Now you need to put a price tag on your work.
I'll start saving.

And what a great exercise to try lighter and darker-keyed versions of the same image. Those darks let the saturated brights sing.

It looks like a twighlight now when the night is beginning to creep in, casting inky darkness reflected on the water and hiding in the undergrowth. It’s fascinating how the mood can change when you change something in a painting. The atmospheric quality of a misty softness is gone now.

I can’t say I prefer one to the other because I love the intensity and depth of your darker version as much as the soft atmospheric quality of the original. My emotional reaction to it is just as complete in its own way. This one is perhaps more intense because of the contrast in the colors. I admire it. Thanks for the comparison. Both versions are impactful and strong and show your mastery of the medium.
