Fyre Festival Apparently Tried To Silence Critics With Cease And Desist Letters

“Specifically, if the social media comments were not taken down, the
Defendants claim they could ‘incite violence, rioting, or civil unrest.’”

By Cavan Sieczkowski

A new lawsuit filed against the organizers of Fyre Festival claims those who criticized the now-infamous event were threatened with cease and desist notices.

Kenneth and Emily Reel, a couple from North Carolina who planned to attend the festival but wound up getting stuck in Miami after paying $4,600 for a VIP villa, filed a $5 million lawsuit against Billy McFarland, Jeffrey “Ja Rule” Atkins, Fyre Media, Fyre Festival, 42West and Matt Projects for fraud and breach of contract, Rolling Stone reported. The lawsuit outlines details similar to multiple others filed against the organizers, including false representation of an event that was all-around “dangerously under-prepared and under-equipped.”

However, the new suit also notes that those who took to social media to post about the debacle were hit with legal threats.

As for those individuals who elected to speak negatively about the Defendants on social media, they are now being threatened with legal action via cease and desist letters. Specifically, if the social media comments were not taken down, the Defendants claim they could “incite violence, rioting, or civil unrest,” with the caveat that if “someone innocent does get hurt as a result … Fyre Festival will hold you accountable and responsible.”

The lawsuit takes aim at social media posts from “Fyre Starter” influencers like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin, who did not accurately label their promotions.

They probably didn't account for the skilled labor and materials required to create a luxury infrastructure, not to mention insurance and the cost of putting on the show.

They merely wanted to take the $$$$$$ and run, which they did.

Commit the crime, then see if you can get away with it. Works for our government.

There is no way they are going to be able to keep any of the proceeds. The lawsuits are gonna kill them. It is going to end up costing them money--not out of criminal liability, but out of contractual relief and or penalty.

If it was a heist, it was poorly thought out. Too many celebrities on board for it to have been a plotted scam. This was incompetence, poor planning. I mean Billy McFarland is a 26 year old with enough money to get what he wants right now. He moves ones and zeros, not beds electricity and plumbing, let alone three star food service.

It's like every frat party you went to where there was a lot of booze and beer, but maybe one or two bags of chips and a jar of El Paso. No social graces. Too damn naive. Taylor Swift should have run it.
