Related: About this forumQuestion for fans of Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange."
For anyone who studies the symbolism of the film. Because Kubrick didn't do anything by accident.
What do you think was the reason for Alex's single large, bizarre-looking false eyelash?
That it makes him look fierce, and slightly crazed, seems a little too obvious, a little too simplistic.
Any ideas?

(66,328 posts)I don't think I've ever encountered a female fan of the film.
Women aren't portrayed at all well in the movie...
Mrs. Alexander is purely a victim.
Alex's mother is a bubbleheaded, spineless dishrag.
Dr. Branom is a cold, unfeeling technocrat.
Not that the male roles fare much better. The only completely sympathetic male character, in my opinion, is the prison chaplain.

edit to add. i see you asked fans of the movie. my bad. just wanted to answer about the eye.
husband didnt liek the movie either. read the book. thought he would really liked the movie. said he would never watch it again. kept wanting to turn it off. then the scene would be over. only for there to be another. he said it is the one movie he was totally appalled by

(66,328 posts)Probably due to the redemptive final chapter, which Kubrick omitted from the film.
I haven't seen the movie in years, and don't plan on ever watching it again. It is tough to sit through. I have a strong appreciation for the films of Stanley Kubrick, but "Paths Of Glory" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" are the only ones of his I truly enjoy.

chapter 14 talks about eye imagery

(66,328 posts)I read the first few chapters of this analysis a few years ago. I found it very meticulous in its examination of the film's symbolism. I didn't get as far as Chapter 14 before moving on to other things. (I was in school at the time...)
