As a kid seeing 'How Green Was My Valley' it never occurred to me that it wasn't taking place in a Welsh mining town. When I learned how it was actually made it is this film that opened my eyes to the magic of movie making back in the Golden Era of the Big Studios.

Shot at the 20th Century Fox ranch in Malibu and the studio lots in Hollywood this is a perfect example of the fabulous set building and Art Direction (it won the Oscar) that made these films so memorable.

I had no idea that a film with so many poetic images was entirely created Stateside.

By the way, I had been thinking Maureen O'Hara (Angharad) alone survived of the primary cast, but it turns out Ann E. Todd (Ceinwein) is still alive at this writing. Anna Lee (Bronwyn) lived until 2004.
