Introducing a wonderful young tenor

Last weekend, listening to the Last Night of the Proms from the BBC, I heard an amazing young Maltese tenor, Joseph Calleja. He has a beautiful, full-bodied tenor, in the old Italian-style of bygone days.

Story is that as a teen, he was singing head-banging rock, then at 15 he saw the film The Great Caruso, with Mario Lanza, and thought, "that's what I want to do". Mercifully, the rock years have done no damage to his voice, and this man surely has a great career ahead of him. He's the most exciting singer I've heard since I first discovered Fritz Wunderlich. The ABC in Australia has been inundated with requests for his recordings ever since.

Here is the link to his rendition of "Nessun Dorma" - I've used the full version, because you can hear the audience drumming their feet on the floor - something I've never heard before at the Proms.
