2. what is better, tax for vice or single payer system?

I am a 39 year old wage slave with no hope of affording health care coverage any time soon. I would rather work part time than collect free money when I am able to work. Last pay I got to keep $537 net out of my $672 gross pay. One fifth of my income is deducted immediately, so yeah, I want to see a single payer system. My question is if my employer does not offer insurance, what options are there for me? Is it not kind of messed up that my tax dollars help other people get coverage that I cannot access unless I stop working and become a burden on the state?
