Why? Because ever since Mondale/Dukakis the Democratic Party, remade by the DLC into a "me too GOP-lite" party, has been so afraid of being called "liberal, socialist," etc by RW hate media that they've been like scared little church mice.

In the meantime the Republicans have almost completely remade the country into an Ayn Rand petri dish.
