Your Grateful Dead song that hooked you?

For me, easy.....Skull and Roses, 1971. This album blew my mind.

But this song, was, whoa, I'm going for the ride. And what a long strange trip it has been....

Of note-

* Bill Kruetzman plays incredible percussion.
* Pigpen not playing....hmmm.
* The sonic clarity of this LIVE album was unbelievable....thanks Betty and Alembic!
* Wish Buddy Holly and Woody Guthrie could have plugged in....

preferred the Stones' cover of Not Fade Away to the Dead and Buddy Holly. That was the Stones record that hooked me.

Up there with American Beauty as among their best. I loved them in concert but I loved their albums more than the tapes of the concerts overall.

To the point that you forgot what song they were even playing; then they’d circle back after 10 or even 20 mins to remind you. You really got lost in it. The right frame of mind also helped.

But what hooked me was golden Road to Unlimited Devotion.

In 1967, an epic year for great music, that one stood out to me for some reason.
