(6,819 posts)Maybe this is closer to what Bowie had in mind when he wrote the lyrics. The original rocks, and that's what probably appeals to most listeners.
I love what Reeves Gabrels does on this!
Thanks for an interesting addendum.

(6,819 posts)I think Bowie's costume was designed by Nomi. KN was a fascinating and singular artist. I love his voice. It was ethereal when he sang soprano, which apparently wasn't done using falsetto.
Thanks for the sweetly nostalgic addendum.

(55,171 posts)Klaus and Joey. When he saw that they bought dress to wear the got his costume people to pull together the same thing for him. The other video is weird...Bowie is a puppet.

Klaus wore the black and white triangular costume while performing his own shows. He was a treasure. What a sad loss of a great talent.

(62,159 posts)Well, as I said, we wrote our own parts. Mick came up with his. I put the running scales in the chorus because the melody and lyrics were so sparse, 'Who knows, not me,' I played 16 notes under those four words alone.
The actual riff for TMWSTW is cunningly simple, yet complex in its ability to sit over the shifting chords. Was that kind of compositional idea instinctive rather than something that was thought out theoretically?
Mick and I worked our parts out against Davids simple chord structure. Mick doubled my bass part for the choruses. We were into the simplicity of the song and didnt want to add too much to it. For the record, it was an eight-track recording so there was no room left to add more anyway. The limitations of tracks in those days made musicians think more creatively rather than leaving it all to the mix.
Much more at the link about the full album.

(6,819 posts)He was a folk artist who transformed into a rocker. Bowie always worked with topnotch musicians.
I'm bookmarking this to return to the link. Thanks!

I guess I'd better kick it again. I was stunned that no one posted a reply after watching it.
