I think the lyrics reflect these fighting times, and it's much less passive (the original was in the 70s, I think.)

That said, I prefer Lil Nas X's cover. He captured the emotions in an amazing way.

Different taste for different people.

Nothing compares to the original. I don’t mind artist taking some creative license when covering other artist’s songs but, to me, this did not work.

Miley Cyrus does a really nice cover of “Jolene”.
For what it’s worth.
